Agenda Highlights:
🏫 NEW LOS ALAMITOS HIGH SCHOOL LEADERSHIP
Cara Vienna, the new principal of Los Alamitos High School, and Kristine Morris, a new assistant principal, will be formally introduced at the meeting.
Vienna was hired as the new leader of LAHS last month following the departure of Christiana Kraus from the position in late June. Kraus had served in the role for five years. Vienna had served alongside Kraus at LAHS as Asst. Principal of Counseling, Special Education, and Intervention. Last week, Morris was appointed to Vienna’s former position. Morris previously served as the school psychologist at LAHS. See the rest of the LAHS administrative team here.

BOARD GOALS FOR 2026-27
The board annually outlines and adopts its priority goals and district core values and releases them in a one-page document.
The 2026-27 school year goals and values are almost identical to last year’s version.
🦅 🦁 MIDDLE SCHOOL ACADEMY UPDATE:
Last school year, the district piloted a new program at the district’s two middle schools known as The Academy, It offered some students who were “right on the verge of meeting grade-level proficiency” an opportunity to attend a zero-period class to work on academic improvements in math and English/language arts. Deputy Supt. Ondrea Reed is expected to give an update on the program.
📝 MATH COURSE PLACEMENT PROTOCOL:
The board will consider adopting a new policy governing how a student is placed in math courses for middle and high school. Board Policy 6152.1 states the superintendent, teachers, counselors, and administrators will work together to develop “a well-articulated sequence of mathematics courses and consistent protocols for placing students in secondary mathematics courses.” Part of the aim is to create an opportunity for students to complete courses required to apply to a UC or Cal State school. Math course placement will be based on “multiple objective academic measures” including state test scores, report cards, and district benchmarks, according to the policy. A student's placement can also be appealed by a parent or guardian, according to the proposal.

🍎 🍚 SUNRISE PRODUCE & PICK-UP STIX:
The board will consider multiple items regarding school meals served to students. First, trustees will consider spending up to $200,000 to purchase produce from Sunrise Produce Company based in Anaheim. Another item is an agreement with Pick-Up Stix to authorize the purchase of ready-to-eat Asian Food Bowls from Pick-Up Stix at a cost of up to $50,000.
