The Los Alamitos Unified School District Board of Education is scheduled to meet on September 15 for a workshop at 4 p.m. and a regular meeting at 6 p.m. The meeting will be held at the district office board room at 10293 Bloomfield Street in Los Alamitos.

Facilities Updates
During the workshop, the district’s head of facilities will update the public on campus projects including new practice turf fields at Los Alamitos High School and plans to build a new Performing Arts Center at LAHS, according to the agenda.
There are no attachments or details on this portion of the agenda but the district is in the beginning stages of a project to build an entirely new PAC. The plan is to build the new structure alongside the existing PAC and then tear down the old structure after the new facility is completed. At the August 25 board meeting, the board entered into an agreement with architecture firm Westgroup Designs, but the final scope and cost of the PAC project has yet to be determined or approved.
District Spending
During the regular board meeting, trustees will hear a presentation and consider adopting the “Unaudited Actuals” for 2025-26. This represents the actual amount of money the district spent and received last fiscal year. The presentation will be delivered first. The 117-page Unaudited Actuals report will be adopted later in the meeting at item 17.a. According to the report, there was a deficit of about $6.1 million for the 2025-26 fiscal year.
“Emerging Technology” Policy
The board will have its second reading and approval of a new board policy on Emerging Technology. The policy governs how technology, including artificial intelligence, will be used by district students and staff. It is focused on nine principles outlined in the policy below.

The policy was discussed at length at the board’s August 25 workshop where Dan Bennett, Ed.D., the district’s director of technology, delivered a presentation on the topic which said the district is taking a "thoughtful, responsible approach to emerging technology." Dr. Bennett explained that the policy was based on work done by the district's A.I. task force last school year.
During his presentation, Dr. Bennett shared staff and administrators were focused on protecting academic integrity and in preserving "the productive struggle of learning, that bit of challenge along the way that students endure that actually develops the skill," Dr. Bennett explained. He said leaders don't want students to use A.I. to circumvent that struggle. He also stated that the district will have a four-level framework for A.I. use by students that goes from no A.I. use to lessons that may be integrated with A.I.

StudentTracker® for High Schools
The board will consider purchasing the StudentTracker service from the National Student Clearinghouse at a cost of $625. According to the agenda, the service “helps high schools and districts track the post-secondary college enrollment, persistence, and graduation outcomes of their graduates.” The information will “inform high school programs and provide data and metrics for program and grant reporting needs.”
LAHS Marquee Wall Project
The high school recently replaced its digital marquee. The board will now consider spending approximately $43,585 to “enhance the appearance of the new LED marquee” by installing “a decorative non-structural masonry wall.” According to the agenda, “the wall will provide an attractive and welcoming feature that matches the school site brick aesthetics and supports the campus identity.”
