Community Film Screening Brings Orange County Together to Reimagine Education

The following is a press release from What School Could Be and does not reflect editorial work done by Spotlight Schools.

OC Pathways, the Orange County Department of Education, the Santa Ana Unified School District, and the nonprofit What School Could Be are partnering to present a community screening of the documentary Multiple Choice. The documentary challenges outdated perceptions of career education and highlights how real-world, career-connected learning prepares students for life beyond high school.

The screening will be held Tuesday, January 27, from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. at SAUSD’s Valley High School, a campus recognized for its innovative career education programs. The event will take place in the school’s newly renovated, state-of-the-art theatre.

The event is designed to bring together educators, families, students, industry partners, and community members to explore what career education pathways can look like when schools are deeply connected to community, purpose, and opportunity.

A Community Conversation on Career Education for All Students

At a time when students and families are navigating an increasingly complex future, Multiple Choice offers a compelling vision of learning that connects academics to real-world experiences. The film reframes career education not as an alternative to college, but as a powerful approach that benefits all students by fostering engagement, relevance, and meaningful pathways forward.

The screening also aims to break the long-standing stigma that career education is only for students who are not college-bound. Instead, it highlights how career-connected learning strengthens academic learning, builds durable skills, and helps students connect school to life through hands-on experiences and community partnerships.

Following the film, attendees will learn about career education and pathway programs currently operating across Orange County, with opportunities to engage in conversation about how these models can continue to grow and evolve locally.

Hosted at a Leader in Innovative Career Pathways

The event will be hosted at Valley High School, a Santa Ana Unified campus leading the way in high-quality career education. Valley High School’s culinary, dentistry, and automotive pathways are widely recognized for their depth and connection to local businesses, colleges, and community. The screening will take place in the school’s newly opened theatre, which debuted earlier this year and serves as a hub for student and community events.
